Goshen Local Schools has learned that it has maintained its rating of 4.5 out of a possible five stars overall on the Ohio school report cards released Monday, Sept. 15.

As a district, Goshen exceeded or significantly exceeded state expectations in all areas of measurement, including graduation rate and achievement. It is important to note that a rating of three stars means a school meets state standards.

Superintendent Brian Bailey said that while the report card is just one measure, the district uses it to monitor progress, and the high ratings are a credit to the hard work of both students and staff.

“We have incredible teachers, and our support staff is second to none. Our students work hard to bring their best to us every day. Our staff is incredible at building relationships and having high expectations, which pushes students to achieve at their fullest potential,” Bailey said. “We continue to innovate and find new ways to make sure we are supporting students however we can.”

In addition to the overall rating, the report card measures six components: Achievement, Progress, Gap Closing, Graduation, Early Literacy and College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness. Goshen earned:

  • 5 stars in graduation rate

  • 5 stars in gap closing

  • 4 stars in CCWM readiness

  • 4 stars in achievement

  • 4 stars in early literacy

  • 3 stars in progress

Goshen’s four-star rating for College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness is a source of pride as well, Bailey said.

“Our mission is to prepare Goshen students for their lives after high school,” Bailey said. “Our five-star ratings in graduation rate and gap closing are a testament to our commitment to ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed. We're not just graduating students; we're preparing them for a bright future.”

By building, the overall ratings were:

  • Marr/Cook Elementary - 5 stars

  • Goshen High School - 4.5 stars

  • Goshen Middle School - 4 stars

  • Spaulding Elementary - 4 stars

To calculate these components, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce uses test results from standardized tests in grades 3 through 12 taken each spring.

Bailey said that this is just a one-day snapshot for students, but a 4.5-star rating is a powerful statement about the exceptional work being done by our students, teachers, and staff.

“We believe that there is more to a Goshen education than just one day’s worth of tests,” he said. “But our scores and rankings within the county and Tri-State area are impressive and should be celebrated.”
